Good Investment

I am sure that there are plenty of your reading this thinking; ‘I can’t invest – I don’t have spare millions’ and some may be thinking ‘I only have a few pounds to spare’. This is exactly what I thought when I first set about looking into this topic but along my journey I have learnt that we can all make the most of our money by utilising knowledge from great historians and businessmen of the present day alike.
Let’s start with the one and only Benjamin Franklin-
“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” – Benjamin Franklin
His view on investing was that education pays. His clear message to us was not to just jump in on an investment because that’s what everyone else is doing. Research the product in its present state, the background of the product as well as the inventor/person behind it. See if the product is for you before putting in your money. Chances are if you don’t love it; maybe others won’t either.
“I will tell you how to become rich. Close the doors. Be fearful when others are greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful.” – Warren Buffett
most successful investor of the 20th century and has been named one of the world’s most influential people. The ‘Oracle of Omaha’, as he was more commonly known amongst his peers, by 2008 at 78years of age was named the world’s wealthiest man. In a way his beliefs draw close similarities to those of Benjamin Franklins – don’t just jump in on an investment because that is what everyone else is doing. The products/ companies that are the most invested often bring you the smallest return. Buffett is also known for his frugal nature even with all his wealth. I guess you reach success through analysing your spend whilst weighing up the risks.
An investment is always a gamble but some investments are worth it. I believe investing is very much like strategically betting. It’s all about weighing up your odds and options and choosing the best ones to go with and those that you think will bring you back the most profit over time.
Here’s where I bring it back to Kickstarter. Let me take you back through a couple points I have made:
• The products/companies most invested in bring smallest return.
• Education pay’s – research, research, research!
Kickstarter is for those forward thinking companies with big ideas. Sometimes a small investment to these guys means big improvements to the rest of us in our everyday lives. Whether that is regarding education, medical, tech etc…Surely an investment into our lives is one of the most profitable investments of all?
Here at Ragworm we love what Kickstarter has invested into our community. As a general member of the public they have given us a new way of investing into the ideas we love most. With no equity taken from the company/invention, no Dragons Den and quite honestly nothing scary, a simple click of a button and sprinkle of faith in something is all that you need.
Why Kickstarter?
We believe that there are a number of reasons that Kickstarter is an attractive option for companies, individuals and investors alike.
For an investor Kickstarter is an open door to a whole toy shop of potential opportunities. It is the chance for a sneak preview of the product before investing all your money. It’s like getting to see the movie trailer before dedicating yourself to seeing that movie in full. You can pledge as much or as little as you see fit and yes this investment may not leave you a millionaire immediately, but most Kick-starters won’t leave you empty handed either. It is what you decide to do from there that differentiates you as an investor or just a backer.
But what is in it for the companies? The biggest attraction for a company is the ability to raise funds without losing equity. Kickstarter is a worldwide platform meaning that you can launch your product on a global basis without the usual cost you would associate with this. It allows you to bring your product to the face of the earth without forfeiting the overall control of your business.
Kickstarter… Why not?
